FREE Online workshop on “Optimization using genetic algorithms and machine learning using neural networks”

ONLINE WORKSHOP ON GA AND NN

Centre for Railway Research (CRR), IIT Kharagpur is launching a free monthly online weekend workshop series from January 2026 to be tentatively held on the last weekend of each month.

Each workshop would aim to upskill students/staff/engineers/railway officers in one particular domain area through 10 hours of teaching and hands-on programming using free, open-source software. Relevant software micro-projects will be used for effective absorption of concepts. Case studies applicable to railways would be used where relevant.

The first workshop in this series will be held on “Optimization using genetic algorithms and machine learning using neural networks” on Jan 31, 2026 (Sat) 6-9 PM and Feb 1, 2026 (Sun) 10 AM – 1 PM and 3 PM – 7 PM. The poster for the first workshop is enclosed. The poster contains the QR code and the web-link to register for the workshop.

Any regular computer (laptop or desktop) with internet connectivity will be sufficient for participating in the workshop. No software needs to be preinstalled. Basic knowledge of programming, matrix algebra, calculus (most of which is covered by class 12) is needed to follow the classes. Active participation (answering all quizzes, completing software micro-projects, etc.) is mandatory to apply for an e-statement of participation in the course.
